OUR MOST RECENT MASTER CLASSES - JUNK JAM 2012

The Global Grooves Master class programme for May to July 2012 saw the team extend its ambition and creativity to new heights with JUNK JAM; a multi-faceted community performance project featuring drums, dance, song, costume design, mobile artwork and much more, all made using recycled and reclaimed materials!

Global Grooves are well known for delivering high-quality study opportunities within international music and dance styles, and Junk Jam extended the team’s passion to a new level. Throughout its development, it became apparent that one of the project’s principal aims was to give every one of its Jammers the chance to really take ownership of their involvement. Every one of Junk Jam’s potential performers had the opportunity to work alongside costume makers and instrument makers to put their stamp on their performance wear and instruments. Cabasa Carnival Arts, No Eyed Theatre, and a variety of other top local artists and companies came on board to make Junk Jam the most outstanding exhibition of fresh artists’ work that the Northwest has seen to date. Community input is extremely valuable and each volunteer’s involvement added an extraordinary amount of life to the development of the final spectacle.

We will develop pieces for the Orixa Omolu / Babalu Ayé, a deity common to Afrobrazilian and Afrocuban traditions.
