Oxumaré

Standing at an impressive four metres tall, Oxumaré (oh-shoo-mar-ay) shimmers all the colours of the rainbow – and shimmies with the best of them.

From the Candomblé tradition, Oxumaré is an androgynous deity that embodies the rainbow and the snake, symbolising fortune, time and transformation.

Oxumaré is accompanied by a single puppeteer whose gentle handling will get the puppet moving, encouraging your guests to follow suit.

Our beautiful character-puppets are made by our in-house artists, often guided and assisted by master makers from outside of Global Grooves. Influenced by global traditions, our resident character-puppets can be found at all kinds of events: performances and parades, festivals, community events – and even weddings and private parties!

The Carnival experience is more than a fleeting performance. We aim to engage all kinds of people, every step of the way, whether that's commissioning emerging artists to work up bespoke choreography, or inviting local people to come up with the costume design.
