We would like to invite you for a sneaky peek of The Vale (our new Centre) before we officially open our doors to the wider community. It’s going to be a day jam packed full of technique workshops, we’ll be covering pandeiro, tamborim and timba with Leon Patel and Eraldo Marques, as well as this you will get to see our fantastic new space. It’s a short 20 minute train journey from Manchester City Centre. Rumour has it there may be cake and biscuits on offer also…
PANDEIRO
This session will help you to develop pandeiro technique in a fun, friendly and supportive environment. From beginners to intermediate players, we will give you a taster in key styles including Capoeira, Samba, Coco, Funk and contemporary styles as well as tips and simple juggling tricks to spice up your playing! You will also get to play through our shiny new sound system and receive some top tips for mic-ing up your pandeiro.
**Caution – Pandeiro playing is highly addictive!**
TAMBORIM
Come and learn or tighten up your technique in this brilliant instrument with expert advice and some fantastic demonstrations.
We’ll be learning some fantastic sequences straight from legendary Samba Schools in Brazil, tightening up your virada (turning the tamborim) and working on some simple moves (if we have time) to really get into the swing of things!
TIMBAU
Booming bass, terrific tones and super slaps, learn from the man with the loudest timbau slap in the West…so legend goes. We’ll be covering the basics of timba technique as well as offering something for the more experienced player. We’ll be learning some funky patterns for this versatile instrument as well as some traditional phrasing rooted in Candomblé and West African culture.
The day will be a great warm up to our full on workshop at Band on the Wall on Sunday 17th May (the day after).
SERIOUSLY FUNKY SUNDAY AT BAND ON THE WALL
Mass Drumming in Samba Reggae, Funk, and Hip-Hop.

Join us for a Seriously Funky Sunday, a whole day jam-packed full of Samba Reggae, Samba Funk and Hip-hop grooves to blow your socks off! Come and hit a drum and wiggle your bum for a great cause as part of our Global Grooves Seriously Funky Fundraiser. Join Global Grooves core team who will teach you the best grooves and breaks from their beat filled brains, and put together an exciting sequence of seriously funky music. We’ll also get a chance to strech our vocal chords as part of the day.
