Eraldo Marques, Executive Director, Financial Director

Executive Director, Financial Director

Eraldo is an arts leader, cultural innovator, and activist with over 20 years of experience in delivering arts for social change.

Born in Brazil, Eraldo’s early life was shaped by his connections to Mocidade Alegre, São Paulo’s celebrated samba school, and his involvement in Meninos do Morumbi, an NGO that uses music and arts to empower youth from underserved communities. These formative experiences laid the foundation for his belief in the arts as a tool for social transformation and addressing inequality.

Championing Cross-Cultural Inclusion

As Executive Director and co-founder of Global Grooves, Eraldo brings his expertise in community-driven arts practice to foster cross-cultural understanding. His approach incorporates the core values of Carnival—celebrating diversity while addressing inequalities rooted in race, class, and gender. For Eraldo, Carnival is both an act of resistance and a creative platform, enabling communities to explore identity, confront social challenges, and co-create vibrant cultural narratives.

Leadership Shaped by Migration

Eraldo’s personal journey to the UK profoundly influences his leadership. Navigating the balance between preserving his cultural heritage and integrating into a new environment has deepened his commitment to inclusivity and accessibility in the arts. At Global Grooves, he prioritises collaborative creation, ensuring that marginalised voices not only participate but also shape the direction of creative projects.

Expertise in Finance and Operations

In addition to his artistic leadership, Eraldo’s expertise in finance and operations ensures the sustainability of Global Grooves’ initiatives. His supportive, collaborative and quiet leadership style fosters an environment where creativity thrives, empowering teams and communities to realise ambitious, transformative projects.

Carnival and Social Empowerment

As an expert percussionist and international touring artist, Eraldo brings unparalleled energy to Global Grooves’ productions, ensuring artistic quality and authenticity remain central. His deep connection to Brazilian Carnival traditions informs the organisation’s work in connecting global art forms with local identities, creating vibrant celebrations that serve as platforms for education, activism, and inclusion.

Art as a Bridge for Justice and Equity

Eraldo’s work exemplifies how art can bridge cultures and champion social justice. His dedication to equity and cultural expression drives Global Grooves’ mission to create inclusive spaces where diverse communities can unite, celebrate, and effect change through the transformative power of the arts.
