Who Can Volunteer?

Everyone! We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds, whether you have experience in the arts or are completely new to it. No matter your age, skills, or experience, if you’re excited to be part of something special, we want to hear from you!

You don’t need to be an expert in Carnival arts or have any specific skills—just bring your enthusiasm, willingness to learn, and a positive attitude. We’re here to support you, so even if you’re nervous or unsure, we’ll make you feel comfortable and welcome.

Current volunteer opportunities

Studio:

  • Experience working as a team to create a finished product
  • Organising costumes, spaces and puppets
  • Opportunity to learn new skills: batiking, sewing, painting, wire work…
  • Meet and network with other likeminded volunteers who also enjoy making and getting stuck in
  • Feel part of the overall production of an event
  • The opportunity to be part of wider events happening with Global Grooves
  • Become part of the Global Grooves carnival family
  • Work alongside internationally acclaimed artists
  • Creative industry experience

Events:

  • Experience crewing and helping with unloading at bigger carnival performances
  • Learn how we get folded and pack up puppets and costumes from the van onto the streets, always looking their best.
  • Learn some event logistics and keep our performers and participants safe and together
  • Parading with the cast of each performance
  • Helping with puppets and general costume changes with the performers
  • Opportunity to meet lots of lovely new people who have a passion for bringing carnival alive
