This twelve-week course, facilitated over Zoom, is completely free and is intended for people – of all ages and backgrounds – who have a passion for the arts and would like to know more about career opportunities, either as a practicing artist or behind the scenes.
As an arts organisation, Global Grooves has been making and producing work, and employing people with all sorts of skillsets, for many years. We would love to share our ideas and networks with you and you never know, it could just help you lift off into a new direction.
What will the sessions consist of?
Each week, we will be joined by an artist or a member of staff at a prominent arts organisation to discuss their work. They will tell us how they got started, the challenges they encountered along the way, the skills they have developed, and how to get started in the industry. They will also put forward a conundrum they’re currently facing and encourage us as participants to discuss and respond.
You will be able to pose your own questions in friendly Q&A sessions.
Each session will last between 1 – 1.5 hours.
When will the sessions take place?
The first session is 10am on Monday 13 July. The course will run every Monday at 10am for 12 weeks inclusive.
Sounds great! Can I join?
As this is a project Global Grooves has been funded to deliver by the European Social Fund (ESF), participants must be unemployed and a Greater Manchester resident to participate. You must also be over 18.
However, we have a limited number of places for other individuals that don’t fit this criteria, so please do get in touch if you’re interested.
What do I need to participate?
Firstly, you must register with Global Grooves to join the course. Please email Sophie via [email protected] or call 0161 870 6895.
You will need a tablet or laptop/PC to join the session. Though you can also join the session using a smartphone, we recommend that you use a tablet, laptop or PC so that you are able to join in with the activities.
You will also need a Zoom account. Zoom is free-to-use video conferencing software. If you don’t already have a Zoom account, you will need to sign up before the course commences here.
Though it will be best to familiarise yourself with how to use Zoom before the course gets underway, joining instructions will be included in the email confirmation. (And don’t worry if you’ve not used it before – we can help!)
