Students will study the relationship between clave and song as well as learning the accompanying atabaque/conga patterns and Rum phrasing (solo atabaque/conga). There will be a particular focus on singing and playing simultaneously and understanding how to put together musical arrangements in honour of several Orixas.
This comprehensive series of evening classes will be accessible for all players who have experience in hand or stick drumming, nurturing beginners and improvers as well as challenging even the most experienced players. The course is designed to give an overview of Candomblé percussion and songs as well as allowing time and space to sing, play and enjoy these beautiful age old musical traditions, together.
Instruments will be provided and participants will be guided through a structured and progressive learning journey.
