Freya Bennett-Nielsen – Producer, Global Grooves

Freya’s journey with Global Grooves began in 2016 as a participant in the Future Leaders programme. During her GCSEs, she took on the role of volunteer producer for the Celebrate Festival in 2017, balancing her studies with the ambitious task of leading a community event. This experience ignited her passion for the arts and set the stage for her rapid rise within the organisation.

Freya has since evolved from Office Manager to Producer, demonstrating exceptional creativity, leadership, and commitment. As the youngest producer in the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Pageant in 2022, Freya led Global Grooves’ contribution, A Sharing of Gifts, a large-scale Carnival project that celebrated the cultural diversity of Greater Manchester on an international platform. Her leadership ensured the event’s success, cementing her reputation as a dynamic and capable producer.

Beyond her production work, Freya contributes to the governance of Global Grooves as a Non-Executive Director, providing a vital youth perspective and championing inclusivity. Her contributions also extend to the broader arts sector, serving as a board member of Z-Arts, where she supports the organisation’s mission to empower communities through creativity.

Freya’s work has taken her across the globe, enriching her artistic practice and expanding her vision for inclusive, community-focused arts. Fast becoming one of Manchester’s most dynamic and influential young arts leaders, she represents the future of the sector. Her leadership, passion, and drive ensure that the arts and Carnival are in safe hands for generations to come.

“The best part about Carnival for me is that the journey never finishes or ends. It’s an eternal cycle of growth, creativity, and community”.  Her dedication to fostering connections through the arts continues to inspire others and strengthens the impact of Carnival as a transformative force for social change.
