Holly Prest, Artistic Director

Artistic Director

Holly is an accomplished percussionist, cultural leader, and advocate for equity in the arts.

As Artistic Director and co-founder of Global Grooves, Holly channels her passion for rhythm, community, and cultural exchange into creating transformative opportunities for creativity and connection. Her work embodies a commitment to the arts as a vehicle for social change, celebrating diversity, and inspiring the next generation of creative leaders.

Leadership in a Changing Arts Landscape

As a female leader, Holly has dedicated her career to breaking down barriers and championing inclusivity in the arts. She is a powerful advocate for women and underrepresented groups, ensuring their voices and contributions are celebrated on equal terms. Holly’s leadership is rooted in a belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to explore their creativity, and she works tirelessly to open doors for emerging artists and cultural practitioners from all walks of life. She was known from a young age as ‘that talented teenager’, turning her hobby into a platform for social good with strong female leadership at the helm. As such, many more female-identifying artists are emerging in the community arts leadership scene.

Empowering Young Creatives

Holly’s pioneering work with Jubacana and the Future Leaders programme demonstrates her commitment to nurturing young talent. These innovative initiatives provide platforms for young people to grow as artists and leaders, using music, visual arts, movement, and cultural exploration as tools for self-expression and empowerment. Holly’s approach encourages young creatives to embrace their individuality and take ownership of their artistic journeys, laying the foundation for a vibrant, inclusive future in the arts.

A Global Perspective Rooted in Local Communities

Holly’s creative journey began in Mossley, where her love of music was first sparked within local community arts projects.  Her dedication to percussion and cultural exploration led her to the vibrant carnival traditions of Pernambuco, Brazil, where she immersed herself in Afro-Brazilian rhythms and Carnival practices. These experiences have shaped her artistic vision and inspired the creation of Juba do Leão, a dynamic UK-based performance group celebrating the rich culture of Northeastern Brazil.

Through her work, Holly has forged meaningful connections between global traditions and local communities, demonstrating how cultural exchange can foster mutual understanding and shared celebration. Her efforts include fundraising for cultural practitioners in Brazil, ensuring that the global arts ecosystem remains equitable and sustainable.

Holly also serves as a trustee for More Music, a leading arts organisation based in Morecambe that uses music to connect and inspire communities, aligning with her dedication to empowering individuals and fostering inclusion through the arts.

Holly’s leadership demonstrates the power of creativity to break down barriers and drive social change. By fostering collaboration and championing underrepresented voices, she continues to shape a more inclusive arts landscape, inspiring individuals and communities to connect, celebrate, and thrive through the transformative power of the arts.
