Tameside Arts was founded in 2005 and is a not for profit, user-led social enterprise, beginning with a small grant to establish the company. This was soon followed by the development of The Chatterbox Theatre Company, for adults with a learning disability, while Stage Stars Drama and Dance group are regularly commissioned to devise and perform issue-based plays for learning disability related events and perform regularly for the general public, schools, colleges and day services.
In October 2020, Tameside Arts appealed to Global Grooves to assist with the finishing touches to their Lottery-funded Create Centre which comprises of a community café, book and arts supplies shop, sensory room, arts and learning zones, alongside the piece de resistance: their purpose-built drama, dance and music studio. Once lockdown restrictions are finally lifted, the Create Centre will be a fully accessible, creative space open to all – and we can’t wait to see it in action!
Huge thanks to Danny Blomeley, Mark Distin-Webster and Leon Patel for all their hard work, and of course all the contractors, electricians, suppliers and our fab admin team for helping to make this happen.
