Sefo Kanuteh is a virtuosic, soulful and authentic Kora and Balafon player from The Gambia. Having worked closely on major projects with artists such as Baaba Maal and The BKO Quintet, his drive to recreate the warmth of his home community in the UK is shown through his inspiring audience engagement during performances, as well as his various workshops and Masterclasses throughout Europe.
This is your opportunity Join Sefo Kanuteh for a daytime Masterclass with Global Grooves at the newly opened Northern Carnival Centre. Participants will bring together their ideas and experience with Sefo before stepping on stage alongside his band to showcase a performance drawn from the masterclass material. We will celebrate music, culture and collaboration together as part of a never-seen-before 25-piece band as part of the evening event.
The event will be hosted in our brand new live performance venue and rehearsal space, part of the Northern Carnival Centre of Excellence, opening in autumn 2021. Featuring a custom designed, flexible PA system, an environmentally conscious stage lighting system, a fully stocked bar and plenty of Carnival colour, the space is accessible and perfect for live performances of all kinds. We can’t wait to welcome you!
Musicians from all disciplines are encouraged to get in touch. We are looking for as many diverse instrumental styles and genres as possible. Masterclass places are limited to 20, therefore a simple, one-stage expression of interest process has been introduced to ensure that we have as wide a variety of instruments and genres represented as possible. We also welcome expressions of interest from small ensembles and duos.
Masterclass participants will also have the opportunity to grace the brand new stage at The Vale with your own music as part of the evening performance (optional and by invitation). This could be a smaller collaborative piece alongside your new found musical friends or a solo performance sharing your own work with our passionate audiences.
