Between February and May 2025, Global Grooves undertook a detailed community consultation to shape the Dancing Threads project, listening deeply to the voices of dancers, musicians, textile artists, heritage groups, and cultural experts. Over 140 individuals and organisations shared their experiences, hopes, and challenges, demonstrating the power of cultural heritage to foster healing, connection, and identity.
Participants emphasised the importance of intergenerational exchange, the revival of traditional skills, and the transformative impact of collective creativity, particularly highlighting the roles of women and elders. Organisations stressed the urgent need to sustain traditions through increased visibility, meaningful collaboration, and practical support. Experts reinforced heritage as dynamic and living, advocating sustainability and authentic co-creation.
The consultation revealed a clear call for heritage activities that are inclusive, sustainable, and genuinely community-led. Global Grooves has responded by embedding these principles deeply into the project, ensuring Dancing Threads is not only about preserving the past but actively making heritage relevant for today’s communities and future generations.
